His Beatitude Daniel

 

The Orthodox Church of Romania was established by St. Apostle Andrew whose missionary work reached the Carpathian mountains and the river Danube. In 1885, the Ecumenical Patriarchate recognized the Church of Romania as an independent church. Few years later, in 1925, it became a Patriarchate. The first Patriarch of Romania was Miron (1925-1939), succeeded by Nikodim (1939-1948), Justinian (1948-1977), Justin (1977-1986), then the Patriarch Theoctist, appointed on 9th November 1986 till 2007, when His Beatitude Daniel, is enthronement as the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church at 30 September 2007. Today, the Patriarchate of Romania has 41 bishops, 9400 priests and deacons, and 324 monasteries.
