This Orthodox Church was established by the brothers St. Cyril and St. Methodios, and recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate as an autonomous church in 1923. It has been independent since 1998. Today, the head of the Church of Czech Republic and Slovakia is Metropolitan Christopher, appointed in 2006. The Church has 3 bishops, 300 parishes and 4 monasteries.
