He
was born in Crete, Greece, in
1968,
after the primary school, on 25th August
1980 arrived in Jerusalem. He studied at Seminary of
the Holly Trinity, on Mount Zion, Patriarchate of
Jerusalem and graduated in
1986.
At
the same time, he studied English at the American
Ulpan in Jerusalem in
1984
and
1985.
On
31st
July
/13th
August
1986,
he
became a monk and got the name Makarios.
The following year, on 15th/28th February 1987, he
was ordained deacon on the Holy Sepulcher by
Archbishop of Tabor Daniel. During the academic
years 1987-1989 he studied Hebrew at Bet Haam Ulpan,
Јеrusalem. On the decision of the Holy Synod of the
Patriarchate in Jerusalem he was accepted at the
university studies at the Faculty of Divinity of the
Serbian Orthodox Church during the academic years
1990/95. After attending a Serbian language course
on the first year he graduated on 30th June 1995.
His final paper was on Liturgy, the topic being The
Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem its
services throughout centuries.

On 16th / 29th August 1992
he was ordained jeromonk on the Holy Sepulcher by the Archbishop of
Tiberias Gregorios and on the day of Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor, 1993,
he was promoted Archimandrite from the Patriarch Diodoros. He lectured from
1995- 2002 at Seminary of the Holly Trinity, on Mount Zion and he was the
Rector for 6 years at the same Seminary. He appointed director of the
Patriarchal Archive from 1995- 2001. During the academic year 2000-2001 he
studied Russian language at Bet Haam Ulpan, Jerusalem. On the decision of
the Holy Synod September 2002 appointed in Fuhais Jordan. During the
academic year 2002-2003 he attended an Arabic language course at the Faculty
of Philology, University of Jordan in Amman.
On the decision of the
Holy Synod October 2004 promoted Patriarchal Representative of Qatar.
He has written numerous
articles and participated in various conferences.
